When we think of leaders in a religious context, there is the work of two that come to mind: the elders and the preacher. Not only are these men to fulfill the biblical requirements, but there are some things that need exemplified that is not expressly addressed by the Bible. For instance, the way a man dresses can render a good deal of influence to those who look. Imagine a preacher presenting himself “in the pulpit” with a t-shirt and shorts! Sinful? No. The influence, however, would be mostly negative, if not entirely so. A preacher, if he is wise, will not lose sight of such things, and neither will any one of the elders. In fact, it would be wise of all our men and women to think on such things. RT

I have generally encouraged men not to wear shirts with designs or sayings stamped on the front that call attention away from the message. Same principle, even though our culture is much more informal than the US.
Sometimes (many times) culture determines what is worn, not the Lord.
