A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger (Proverbs 15:1, NKJV). One of the great contributions to disastrous personal relationships is to the lashing out when angry. The Holy Spirit speaks a number of times about the proper tone and motivation in one’s speaking to another, with this being just one of those admonitions. A couple of others would be Colossians 4:5-6 and 1 Peter 3:15. When anger arouses, control can be lost. Thus, it is important to get a handle on that situation quickly, and the Holy Spirit gives a perfect way to do it.
