The Scriptures teach that the Lord’s servant must be prepared to defend His cause. Peter writes, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15, ESV). Moreover, Jude writes, Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 3). In exemplary form Apollos demonstrates, for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, showing by the Scriptures that the Christ was Jesus (Acts 18:28). RT
