The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, But He loves him who follows righteousness. (Proverbs 15:9, NKJV). As mentioned with the previous proverb, those who have a shell (façade) of religious piety offer to the Lord only wickedness. These are hypocrites. The openly wicked have more “honor” to them than the hypocrites, for at least all pretense is shunned. In both cases, however, neither one of them are in good standing with the Lord! For those who live in accordance with the righteous way of the Lord, the Lord is on their side, even when they get weak in their walk with Christ.
A Word to the Wise. The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, But the prayer of the upright is His delight (Proverbs 15:8, NKJV). There are many people who feign a religious disposition. They do so because they don’t want others to see them as they actually are; they desire to be seen as morally upright and sympathetic to godliness. They “go to church,” are quite charitable, and do other things to be seen of men. Those who have a façade religious disposition can fool many, but they can never fool the Lord. The principle of Numbers 32:23 will certainly apply. “… behold, you have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will find you out” (ESV). But for those who love the Lord, and are obedient to His will, their prayers are heard and answered.
